Plans for the Matthewsgreen Farm development as part of the North Wokingham Strategic Location Development were
submitted by Bovis Homes and Gleeson, following consultation with the local community through an exhibition and a
public meeting. The Executive Committee of the Wokingham Society liaised with the developers, local residents
associations and ward Councillors. At its Meeting on 25 February 2015 the Wokingham Borough Council Planning
Committee noted these issues, for which there was support elsewhere, but decided to approve the application as
Because the North Wokingham Distributor Road is now intended to go through, rather than to the north of, the development, an exit onto the Twyford Road was completed earlier than previously proposed, with a shorter period being need for construction traffic to enter via Toutley and Matthewsgreen Roads.
The first phase of development started in 2015, with houses coming up for occupation by October 2016. A second phase is now under way.
Linden Homes have acquired the north-west area of the development from Bovis and have obtained detailed planning permission for houses in the first phase, with work having started recently. Plans have also been approved for a second phase, and are likely to be agreed for a third phase as well. The Society’s representatives have been in active discussion with Linden Homes about design and infrastructure issues.
